The Cabin

9x12" acrylic on canvas board. 2021.

This is another mashup painting. At the last farmer's market someone asked if I had a painting of a house in a meadow. I didn't, but on my daily walk I came across this house with a beautiful sloped rear yard that was full of flowers and topped by a very interesting tree. I reimagined that with a cabin, edited out some things, and came up with this painting.

Wheatfield with Cypresses (Vincent van Gogh interpretation)

My interpretation of Vincent van Gogh's "Wheatfield with Cypresses" 8x10" acrylic on canvas. 2021

I love how van Gogh lets the paint speak for itself - how the paint flows. You know what the object is, without being so literal. So, I decided to try it with this painting. It's not perfect, I still had a lot of trouble letting go and just moving with it - but it was a great exercise which I will keep working on.

Trailside

Elfin Stone

While hiking in the Elfin Forest I came across an interesting boulder. In this painting I was not so much interested in duplicating the boulder as I was focusing on the shapes and shadows.

The Palm

To me, tall palms that have just had their branches cut look ridiculous. In this painting I used just a wash of color for the background. For the palm I used a Q-tip for the top part of the tree, a foam wedge brush for the bottom, a pallet knife for the branches, and string for the leaves. We have palms here that are far taller than this with just a puff of branches at the top.
