Still Life with Blue Cloth
Oil on canvas panel. 2012.
This is the painting where I learned to paint what I saw as opposed to painting an object. I could not make the fruit sit on the blue cloth, which I also could not get to look right. I spent hours one day nose to painting just painting the colors and shapes in an attempt to get it to work. My daughter walked in the room and told me to stand up and walk away, see what I had done.

This is the last complete painting I did in my Painting 1+2 class at Honolulu Museum of Art. I had been taking this class for years, but classes were canceled mid-semester due to the pandemic.
